Biography:
Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, is a prominent villain in DC Comics, particularly within the Batman mythos. Dent's origin story typically involves him beginning as the incorruptible District Attorney of Gotham City. His commitment to justice earned him the nickname "Apollo" and made him an ally to Batman and Commissioner Gordon.
His first appearance was in Detective Comics #66 which occurred in 1942.
However, during a trial involving mob boss Sal Maroni, Dent had acid thrown in his face, horribly scarring the left side of his face. This disfigurement, coupled with the psychological trauma, shattered Dent's sanity. He became Two-Face, a criminal obsessed with duality and chance.
Two-Face makes decisions based on the flip of his signature two-headed coin, one side of which is defaced to match his scarred visage. The coin determines whether he will be merciful or inflict punishment. This reliance on chance reflects his internal conflict between the good man he once was and the monstrous figure he has become. His motivations range from seeking revenge on those he blames for his condition to simply wreaking havoc on Gotham.
